150 Jobs Expected in $50M Steel Expansion Investment for Baltimore County Site
The Baltimore Sun covered Governor Wes Moore’s announcement of JD Fields HDM Spiralweld Mill’s new steel fabrication center at Tradepoint Atlantic. The 200,000 square-foot facility will bring 150 manufacturing jobs and $50 million in private investment to the Sparrows Point industrial complex, once home to Bethlehem Steel.
State and local agencies are supporting the project through a $1 million loan from the Maryland Department of Commerce, $750,000 in job creation tax credits, and $100,000 from Baltimore County. The Sun emphasized the project’s role in restoring the region’s steelmaking heritage and the governor’s broader effort to expand Maryland’s industrial and employment base.
Officials from JD Fields & Company described the expansion as a “return of hope and pride” for Baltimore County’s steel community. The new plant will be the firm’s second U.S. mill, following its 2022 Houston facility, and serves as a testament to the renewed vitality of Maryland’s manufacturing sector.
